For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given [me] the heritage of those that fear thy name. Psalm 61:5
And Joshua answered them, If thou [be] a great people, [then] get thee up to the wood [country], and cut down for thyself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the giants, if mount Ephraim be too narrow for thee. Joshua 17:15
Friends, we have a heritage that we share together as those baptized in his name, covered by his blood and filled with his spirit. According to Psalm 61:6-7 it is a heritage that came to us only through HIS mercy and truth, and it allows us the chance at eternal life before his presence. But this life, this heritage can be squandered. It can be missed by those who don't apply themselves. There are still trees in the land that need to be cut down, borders that need to be expanded and enemies still to be conquered if we want to enjoy the fullness of this inheritance. Since God wrote his law on the tables of our hearts, we can conclude that the land we speak of is the internal land of our heart. The trees are rooted belief systems, rooted attitudes, and sins of the flesh that need to be cut out of our lives. The enemies with their strong chariots and the giants that are mentioned in Joshua are the external forces that threaten to overwhelm us and may seem too powerful for us to overthrow.
But do not despair! The land (your heart) is all ready WON! Your provision is made and God is just waiting for you to expand your knowledge/faith/spirit (our true inheritance). The seed of God's Word and Spirit are all ready within us. But it will take work, self-awareness, prayer and fasting to overcome some of the engrained enemies that threaten to choke off our expansion. The devil wants to keep us in our own little corner, and make God seem cheap and weak, never answering our prayers. But we know better! Start taking stock of your land. Start by listing your weaknesses first, the places the giants and enemies could hit you. Start reviewing the engrained attitudes and beliefs that may limit your growth in God and then GET CUTTING! Pull them out, cut them down, and work daily (every single day) against them! In no time God's fullness will be revealed and you will be a bigger, stronger spiritual person than you ever thought possible!
In Love,
